Agency Description
Our Approach

Our approach to lighting design is first and foremost respectful of the architectural project and the materials that compose it. We are convinced that the aesthetics of lighting can only be achieved if we acknowledge and understand the impact of light on our behaviors and how it influences our emotions, sensations, and perceptions.

Thus, our collective designs, in collaboration with project creators, aim to enhance architectural expression so that its perception is conveyed with elegance. When we approach a project, we quickly establish close collaboration with all stakeholders, from the Client to the Architect, including everyone involved in the reflection process. We believe that through this attentive listening and collaboration, we can succeed in our mission and choose the best systems to achieve the desired results

This fundamental rule is applied to all our interventions, which has allowed us to build loyalty with our clients and the architects with whom we work on a variety of projects entrusted to us by both architects and interior designers. With extensive experience in lighting design, our agency is now able to provide expertise on any technical lighting issue. To this end, Ph. A Lighting Designers and Design has equipped itself with precision tools to perform measurements on luminaires in laboratory conditions and to conduct field measurements on operational installations

This expertise allows us to qualitatively assess the lighting equipment presented by manufacturers and to precisely measure all their characteristics. This meticulous work on lighting fixtures, both for interior and exterior design projects, enables us to refine our selection of luminaires to reduce their visual impact and achieve a subtle, delicate, and refined aesthetic, favoring optimal comfort for the perception of architecture. Thus, we promote a quick understanding of spaces while protecting the textural qualities of materials, whether architectural or shaping objects displayed in museums or retail spaces, for example.

The detailed design of all luminaire integration details is another requirement we impose on ourselves to ensure elegant, creative, and accomplished lighting. Essential for the successful implementation of our projects, our precise details also allow companies to adjust their pricing to closely match the reality of the projects.

Composed mainly of specialized engineers in lighting and computer graphics, our close-knit team has been working together for many years on each project entrusted to us, with a spirit of simplicity, good humor, and professionalism.

Our Laboratory

Photo-goniometer Viso system, Gloss meter, Minolta Spectrophotometer, Lux meters...

In a modern and eco-responsible lighting design approach, it is essential that luminaire performance data be both precise and reliable. This is why all the lighting equipment we select undergoes specific measurements conducted under laboratory conditions within our own agency. This allows us to guarantee the luminous efficiency of the proposed installations and certify to our clients that the required illumination levels will be achieved.

These measurements enable us to verify the photometric curves of luminaires provided by manufacturers, ensuring that the predicted lighting outcome during our studies will match what is measured after the lighting system is installed.

The photo-goniometer, used in our tests, measures the luminous intensity of luminaires and analyzes their spatial distribution. Fully automated and controlled by software, it manages other essential luminous value measurements crucial to our studies and equipment selection, such as UGR, IRC, and light spectrum.

Archived in our database, this information is then used in the design of our lighting projects, both for interior and exterior spaces. With these precise photometric data, we can perform and commit to our lighting simulations using software like DiaLux or ReLux, whether for internal projects or in collaboration with our partners.

These tools are indispensable for closely approximating the desired lighting effects in our projects. They are also available to designers who need to quickly evaluate their lighting materials during development or post-production.

Philippe ALMON
Lighting designer
Manager

Light has been his profession but also his passion since a young age. Barely over the age of 16, Philippe Almon began, as an autodidact, his technical and sensitive training according to his various encounters in the world of live performance; at first amateur then very quickly professional in theater and circus (Zingaro equestrian circus), in conjunction with a more sonorous training and activity as a radio director with various media including Libération or Claude Villers where he was given numerous airings of P creation

Philippe Almon set up as a lighting consultant in 1995 after a brief stint with manufacturers of indoor and outdoor lighting fixtures in order to perfect his training in the specificities of architectural and urban lighting, then created his lighting design agency in 2000. Between 2015 and 2022, Philippe Almon joined the teams of MAD Decorative Arts professors and passionately taught lighting at the Camondo school.
‍
From 2015 to 2022: Philippe Almon works as a professor of lighting at the Decorative Arts in Paris, attached to the Camondo school of interior architecture.

2000: Creation of the Ph. A Lighting & Design agency

1995: Start of an activity in BNC: Philippe ALMON Lighting Consultants.

1993, 1994: Creation, in association, of a lighting consulting agency that is now competing. Speaker at U.P.1: 'Lighting and Architecture'

1992: Collaboration for one year, with a manufacturer of outdoor lighting devices: ECLATEC NANCY. Function: lighting advice to Project Directors and Project Directors.

1988: More than three years working with a German manufacturer of indoor lighting equipment: ERCO LUMIERES. Function: lighting advice to Project Owners and Project Owners. Graduated from the French Lighting Association.

1987: Radio director attached to Claude VILLERS's programs.

1986-1985: General manager of the ZINGARO equestrian theater - Light creation of the show. Parisian shows, under a tent: Métro JAURES. French and European tour, under a tent. Speaker at the I.U.T in TOURS: 'The sound and techniques of reportage'.

1983-1985: Director at RADIO LIBERATION.

1980-1983: Radio director T.S.F 93. Light manager pocket theater Paris. Light manager Martigues Popular Arts Festival. Machinist cinder at the Théâtre de l'Est Parisien. Machinist Musical Theater of Paris.

Kevin GARNIER
Lighting designer
Project director

After being trained at a colleague lighting design agency, where he was a study manager, Kevin joined us in April 2011.

Previously introduced to computer graphics, he immediately proved to be talented and precise in making the lighting effects we offer very realistic. It is therefore unavoidably Kevin who produces or finalizes all images entrusted to us by our customers.

Now an experienced lighting designer, Kevin shares his collaborations between major interior and exterior projects. Particularly organized, he does not seem to be bothered by the gigantism of certain projects such as the T2 terminal at Singapore airport or the renovation of large palaces. Some of these projects have now won awards.

The people who collaborated with him recognize his human and professional qualities, the empathy and generosity that are essential for listening and collaborating with the other actors in the projects under his responsibility.

Nicolas BEAUPIN
Lighting designer
Project director

With a postgraduate degree in Thermal and Energy Engineering, Nicolas Beaupin is an engineer specialized in Lighting, Acoustics and Thermal Engineering. A collaborator with the agency since October 2013, Nicolas accompanied Philippe Almon in his teaching at the Camondo school by taking charge of computer tools related to lighting.

Within our agency, Nicolas is attached to interior projects and specialized in the lighting of tertiary projects, commercial spaces and large stores such as Le Bon Marché, Printemps Homme or Citadium. Within the agency, he also signs mythical and magnificent projects such as the Cala di Volpe Hotel in Sardinia for example or the lighting of the “Trop long Mondo” and “Clos de Tard” cellars.

His tranquility, his patience, his kindness as well as his professional qualities make Nicolas an important part of our agency.
